The Spine – Information on Diseases and Treatments

The surgical treatment of diseases of the spine has changed substantially over the last few years, comparable to the triumph of joint replacement in the treatment of hip and knee osteoarthritis. These changes include minimally invasive catheter and probe technology, endoscopic procedures, so-called keyhole technologies and the implantation of disc prostheses into the lumbar and cervical spine.

Treatment of the Spine at OCM

The physicians at OCM are specialized in precise diagnosis and treatment of back pain through minimally invasive procedures and pioneering surgical techniques.

Indications include pain in the lumbar and cervical spine due to several causes:

  • degeneration of the spinal discs,
  • herniated spinal discs and spinal disc protrusions,
  • osteoarthritis and deformities in the zygapophysial joints,
  • narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis),
  • spinal instabilities  (spondylolisthesis and rheumatic instabilities),
  • osteoporotic vertebral fractures.

One OCM treatment focus is the endoscopic removal of herniated disks in the spine. This minimally invasive method avoids the need for a conventional open disk operation.

Current surgical treatment focuses on the non-fusion techniques, such as spinal disc prostheses or dynamic stabilisation. Fusions are only necessary if all other methods are no longer feasible. The broad range of minimally invasive techniques and modern surgical procedures ensures that the perfect treatment for a specific spinal disease is selected.
